About this Course
Conventional water provisioning approaches that rely on snowfall, rainfall, river runoff and easily accessible groundwater are overexploited and insufficient to meet growing freshwater demand in water-scarce areas. Water-scarce countries need a radical re-thinking of water resource planning and management that includes the creative exploitation of a growing set of viable but unconventional water resources for food production, livelihoods, ecosystems, climate change adaption, and sustainable development and conservation. There is limited information and fragmented examples of using unconventional water resources across the world to boost water supplies in dry areas.
What you will learn
After completing the course, the participants will be able to:
- Understand the importance of unconventional water resources in narrowing the water demand and supply gap in water-scarce areas.
- Learn about different types of unconventional water resources and their potential uses under specific situations.
- Develop an understanding of the relevance of certain unconventional water resources in their area/country.
Specific knowledge and skills gained:
- Key concepts around unconventional water resources and their applications
- Prioritization of specific type(s) of unconventional water resources under specific situations and environments.
